First shown at Collected Bay gallery in Oakland in June 2022, this was the 2nd iteration of the prism series.
Participants are able to play and take pictures of themselves and their friends around the prism.
With the camera facing towards the wall, I was hoping to guide participants to either side, in order to let them realize the prism’s phenomena.
I machined the jig prototype with the Millie the Mill at work and had help from my good friend to help me get the spacing right.
Still not yet recovered from a traumatic injury, and with only four days until the event, I managed to [solicit my friend’s to help to] set up this photo experience idea I had for open studios, to share my art and sell some Kaleidocubes.
It was definitely a first go at a prototype - as in, that day was the first time it was actualized, and wasn’t perfect upon first setup.
Throughout the evening, my coworker Kaitlin and I did some Live Exhibit Development, and was working through how to help people see the magic of the prism.
I think the amazing part, the one that really surprised people, is taking a picture of the subject, from the wrong direction.
To remedy this, I experimented with rotating the stand, adding some arrows and signage to lead people into the phenomena.
